What is the RHI?
The UK government announced the Renewable Heat Incentive in March 2011 in order to encourage individuals to switch from using fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy for heating. This scheme is applicable for both domestic and commercial customers.
Under the RHI, a domestic or business owner can fit a renewable source of heat and be rewarded for doing so in the form of a quarterly payment made for seven years. This is designed to help the homeowner cover the capital outlay of the initial installation whilst switching to a more economical and green energy source.
The current RHI payment rates for domestic installations are shown in the table to the left.
